Custom Scarf Guide
This guide explains how to write design requirements for a custom scarf brief and how to turn a brief into an item list. It is a guide and inquiry-confirmation page: it states no claim about any design method.

Start with the direction, in plain words
A custom brief starts with the direction, written as a plain description of what the buyer has in mind: the direction itself, the elements that matter, and anything to settle in writing. The direction belongs beside the items it belongs to, so each item on the list reads with its own requirements attached. A brief with the direction in one place and the items in another makes the questions harder to place.
Buyers often arrive with a direction already settled and an item list still taking shape, or the other way round. Either order works for the inquiry, as long as the finished message carries both: the design requirements and the item list, with quantities beside each item and the destination market for the list as a whole.
Design requirements beside each item
Design requirements cover the direction, the elements that matter, and the colour, shape and size requirements, all beside the items they belong to. Name them in the inquiry, and ask what applies to each item. This site publishes no claim about any design method, and the inquiry should not assume one.
Reference material belongs in the same message as the brief, described in words. Name each reference item, note what it illustrates, and keep it beside the item it belongs to. A reference item with no note about what it illustrates leaves the question open.
Turning a brief into an item list
Turn the brief into an item list before sending: one line per item, the quantity beside each line, and the design requirements beside the lines they belong to. Keep the families in separate groups when the list spans more than one family, with the design requirements beside the group they belong to. Add the destination market for the list as a whole, and anything to settle in writing beside the items it belongs to.
